Open wide for a mouthful of power pop meets post-punk, post-depression rock and roll. Prescribed by Doctor Mother Father, a seasoned three-piece from gritty Saint John, New Brunswick, led by Corey Bonnevie (Little You, Little Me) on guitar/vocals, Kortni Nicols on bass/vocals, and Colin Ferris on drums. Offering an electric shot in the arm with sincere songs about being broke, having fun, getting mad, and getting by—with a little help from yer friends. It’s an energizing soundtrack to hard times in the maritimes in the midst of a crashing economy.

"It All Depends On How You Wanna Hurt" is their latest EP, which has the band giving into their loudest punk and pop tendencies. Clocking in at just under 18 minutes with a tight six song track list, the EP is a compact blast of heartfelt anthems about living within the discomfort of capitalism. Hard on Systems is the song that best embodies the theme of the EP with its chorus “Let’s be hard on systems, and soft on people”. Aside from the theme, it’s also become the band's mantra, by always viewing folks with an empathic lens and critical of the constructs of systems that those same folks live in. The trio recorded live off the floor at Monopolized, giving the songs an intimate and immediate feeling. Steering away from “studio magic”, the band sought to preserve the raw aspects of the songs and sonic palette.

Doctor Mother Father originated as a solo endeavor by Corey amidst the COVID lockdowns. Being the era of minimal live performances, the first collection of songs came out quietly on the album Catholic. Saint John’s local campus radio station 107.3 Local FM asked Corey to have the band play their Best of Saint John Awards show in the summer of 2021. The only issue was that the band wasn’t officially a band. Corey had to recruit players to perform the music live. With lockdowns still happening, the task was still full of uncertainty, especially with the Saint John music scene on a hiatus. He eventually came around to asking rhythm power couple Kortni Nicols on bass and Colin Ferris on drums. Both of which have their own respective projects Lionsault and Shiek. In about a month, they pulled together a 30 minute set. The performance put a spark in the three piece group. While supporting the record, Corey began writing new songs with Kortni and Colin as the rhythm section. Doctor Mother Father continues to write and record a 3 piece unit, with every release building off of their simplicity and earnest songwriting.
