ER & The Other
Amongst the hundreds of bands exploding on the Canadian music scene these days, Something French hold their place as one of the most interesting and provocative groups. Simple melodies and song writing, coupled with exotic sounds and tormented guitar strings, make up the band’s innovative sound.
In the mist soaked fog basin of Saint John, Canada, five musicians gradually came together to find the voice they were looking for. Well known and active guitarist Christopher Braydon started collaborating with Amy Stewart, and the two quickly grew into a trio that involved numerous bass players. In these early days the group experienced multiple line-up changes and at one point had as many as eight musicians performing on stage. Finally, Christopher and Amy were joined by childhood friend Justin Hamilton on drums and a local filmmaker Greg Hemmings (Hemmings House Productions) on bass. The line up was further expanded when Steve Walsh was asked to produce some early recordings. The group would have one more change as Adam Kierstead was brought in to take over on bass. Now there are five, the table is set and the show will go on...
Something French will be finishing up their debut album by August 2008 and look to be hitting Canadian cities early in the fall. "I Am a Microphone" and "Grand Manan," two of the tracks from the upcoming album, are available for download at http://www.myspace.com/somethingfrenchband
